I visited with VandyMania.com Publisher Don Yates earlier this week to discuss our upcoming game with the Commodores. Listen to the interview here, including what he sees as Vanderbilt’s strengths versus the Owls’…

Monday I had an opportunity to speak to VandyMania.com publisher Don Yates in Nashville. His Scout.com site is one of the more established in the network and Don has been close to Vandy football for over a decade. He’s obviously excited about the progress the ‘Dores program has made in that time.

In 2008 the Commodores are 2-0 after knocking off Miami (Ohio) and #24 ranked South Carolina in their first two games, a sign that Vandy is perhaps starting to establish itself as a contender for Top 25 status.

Coach Bobby Johnson has recruited well, but has probably developed players in his program even better. Speaking of those players, his team and those familiar with it, love the Vandy coach. Ask anybody in Nashville and they'll tell you what a good man Coach Johnson is. Sound familiar? It should – Rice is following a similar blueprint under second year coach David Bailiff. And those that know Bailiff feel the same way about him.

Actually, there are these, and quite a few more parallels between the two schools known more for academics than football. That could change though with these two on the sidelines.
