Honors Piling Up For Porras

Owl Defensive Back commit Paul Porras has gotten plenty of recognition for his 2008 season. Porras played both ways for his Scottsdale Saguaro team - but has received heavy recognition for his play on Defense...

We've chronicled Arizona Defensive Back Paul Porras' play all season long right here at Owl Digest.

Now, apparently others have noticed too.

Porras is becoming one of the most highly decorated athletes in the state after a senior season that included over 60 tackles and 7 interceptions.

Saguaro won its 3rd straight State Championship this year capping an undefeated streak of over 30 games that dates back to 2006.

Here are some of Porras' Awards...

1st Team All-City DB

Scottsdale City Player-of-the-Year

1st Team All-Desert Sky Region WR/DB

1st Team All-East Valley Tribune DB

1st Team All-4A Arizona Republic DB

Though Paul is seemingly getting a new award each day, he is focused on other things.

"I'm really pumped about getting to Rice. It's only about 6 months away now. The season this year was just phenomenal, and the program is just blowing up - I can't wait to be a part of that next year!"

Paul is focused on a couple other things.

"I'm playing basketball right now too. I really think we could win State in hoops too. Then in the spring I'm not sure about track yet. I may just workout for football." Porras is a 45' Triple Jumper.

This super-talented athlete just makes plays everywhere and richly deserves the awards he receiving.

I asked Paul which one he cherishes most, but it wasn't on the list.

"Its my scholarship to Rice. That's the most important thing I've been given. I can't wait to get there."

We're waiting Paul, we'll have the parade ready...
