The 10th seeded Rice Owls (10-21, 5-12 C-USA) advanced to the second round of the tournament as they defeated the seventh seeded Marshall Thundering Herd (15-17, 7-10 C-USA), 60-59.

Now that the Conference USA regular season is officially over, it’s time for us to announce our all-C-USA teams. To no one’s surprise, the Most Outstanding Player Award goes to UCF’s dynamic shooting guard, Jermaine Taylor, who led the conference in scoring with a 26.6 ppg. average, setting a new C-USA record. The Memphis Tigers continue to flex their muscles, as they stay perfect in conference and are the hottest team in the nation with 19 consecutive wins. Rice and Marshall both recorded their first conference road victories of the season, as Rice overcame a record-setting performance by the great Jermaine Taylor. Houston and SMU were game opponents, but couldn’t seal the deal on the road.

Another week has gone by in the C-USA and what else is new, Memphis is undefeated. John Calipari’s Tigers are playing stifling defense and some close early season contests have turned into blowouts. Senior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.) totaled a game-high 20 points and junior forward Tony Davis (Sarasota, Fla.) recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds as the UCF men’s basketball team rolled past Rice for a 77-52 Conference USA win at Tudor Fieldhouse Saturday. The Knights (11-6, 1-2 C-USA) outscored Rice 47-22 after intermission.

The Texas Longhorns didn’t get to the championship game as they had hoped at the Maui Invitational, but took care of business after a heartbreaking loss to Notre Dame by beating Oregon 70-57. In an aging Reliant Arena, one of three "home" courts for Rice while enduring a $25 million, year-long makeover to Autry Arena, and in front of possibly the smallest crowd to see MU basketball since before the Veteran's Memorial Field House was built in 1950, Marshall broke a road-losing streak and opened C-USA play 1-0 in Houston, with a 66-47 win over Rice. 9-4 is best MU start since 2000-01.
