Josh Rodriguez and Matt McBride each had two hits for the Peoria Saguaros in a 3-1 loss to Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League.

Rodriguez started at second base and went 2-for-4 with a double. He is trying to make up for lost time as he missed 100 games this summer at Double-A Akron with a severely strained hamstring. He played only 33 games in the regular season, batting .295 with 12 RBI, though he was an offensive force in the playoffs as Akron rolled to the Eastern league championship.

McBride served as the DH and went 2-for-3 with a walk, triple and RBI -- picking right up from his good summer at Class A Kinston and Akron. He tore up the Carolina League for 31 games, hitting .405 with six homers and 36 RBI to earn a promotion. Then at Akron, he hit 12 more homers with 63 RBI in 98 games. Overall, the converted catcher batted .287 with 18 homers and 99 RBI.

Two pitchers from Akron's staff made their AFL debuts. Carlton Smith worked one scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. He threw 10 of his 13 pitches for strikes. Josh Judy took the loss. He gave up three hits and two unearned runs over 1 2-3 innings, walking one and striking out one. The walk was intentional.
